Job description

Role overview: The Database Administrator - Insurance Operations is based in Baltimore, Maryland and supports policy servicing, claims support, and customer correspondence. This position combines hands-on execution with reliable documentation and collaboration across operational and technical teams. Responsibilities: Monitor database health, tune queries, manage permissions, and verify backup restoration. Apply these responsibilities to policy servicing, claims support, and customer correspondence. Work with process owners to maintain accurate case histories and escalate coverage questions to authorized specialists. Identify problems early, record the evidence behind recommendations, and coordinate handoffs so agreed work is completed accurately. ROLE-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Administer databases used for policy administration, claims operations, and insurance reporting. Monitor query performance, capacity, backup completion, and replication health. Review permissions with system owners and maintain documented change procedures. Test recovery processes and verify that restored data supports expected application behavior. Coordinate schema changes with developers, troubleshoot slow queries, and keep operational records that make incidents and maintenance activities traceable. Qualifications: 2+ years of relevant professional experience or equivalent demonstrated project work. Demonstrated capability in SQL administration, performance diagnostics, access management, and recovery. Experience supporting insurance operations is preferred. Ability to document decisions, communicate clearly, and handle business information responsibly. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Candidates should be able to explain how they have used SQL administration, performance diagnostics, access management, and recovery in practical work. Relevant experience may come from employment, consulting engagements, apprenticeships, or substantial projects. Bring examples of how you resolved an operational problem, checked the accuracy of your work, and communicated a recommendation to colleagues with different responsibilities. Familiarity with the industry is valuable, and the ability to learn unfamiliar processes and ask precise questions is equally important. FIRST 90 DAYS Review backup and recovery coverage, establish performance baselines, and address a prioritized database reliability issue. During onboarding, review existing documentation, meet the people who depend on this role, and confirm priorities with your manager. Agree on a realistic delivery plan, record dependencies, and share progress regularly. Success will be evaluated through the quality of completed work, reliable follow-through, and improvements to the specific process or service assigned to you. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Work collaboratively with operational stakeholders and subject-matter experts. Keep decisions, unresolved questions, and handoffs documented so others can continue work without unnecessary delays. Raise conflicting priorities early and propose practical next steps. Maintain confidentiality and use approved systems when handling customer, employee, or business information. Work arrangement: Full-Time, On-site in Baltimore, Maryland. Estimated annual cash compensation: USD 89,000 to 120,500. APPLICATION DETAILS Applications close November 2, 2027. Staffing agency submissions are welcome.
