Job description

Role overview: The Technical Writer - Transportation Services is based in Huntington, West Virginia and supports route coordination, delivery exceptions, and customer updates. This position combines hands-on execution with reliable documentation and collaboration across operational and technical teams. Responsibilities: Interview subject experts, write task-based documentation, validate instructions, and maintain versioned reference material. Apply these responsibilities to route coordination, delivery exceptions, and customer updates. Work with process owners to account for changing schedules and operational handoffs between locations. Identify problems early, record the evidence behind recommendations, and coordinate handoffs so agreed work is completed accurately. ROLE-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Create operating procedures, system guides, troubleshooting references, and training materials for transportation teams. Observe workflows and interview dispatch, maintenance, and operations specialists to verify task sequences. Organize information around the user's decision points and clearly identify exceptions and escalation steps. Maintain revision control and route safety-sensitive content to responsible reviewers. Test instructions with intended readers and update documentation when equipment or processes change. Qualifications: 2+ years of relevant professional experience or equivalent demonstrated project work. Demonstrated capability in technical editing, information architecture, structured authoring, and revision control. Experience supporting transportation services is preferred. Ability to document decisions, communicate clearly, and handle business information responsibly. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Candidates should be able to explain how they have used technical editing, information architecture, structured authoring, and revision control in practical work. Relevant experience may come from employment, consulting engagements, apprenticeships, or substantial projects. Bring examples of how you resolved an operational problem, checked the accuracy of your work, and communicated a recommendation to colleagues with different responsibilities. Familiarity with the industry is valuable, and the ability to learn unfamiliar processes and ask precise questions is equally important. FIRST 90 DAYS Inventory critical documents, identify a high-friction procedure, and publish a reviewed revision supported by user feedback. During onboarding, review existing documentation, meet the people who depend on this role, and confirm priorities with your manager. Agree on a realistic delivery plan, record dependencies, and share progress regularly. Success will be evaluated through the quality of completed work, reliable follow-through, and improvements to the specific process or service assigned to you. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Work collaboratively with operational stakeholders and subject-matter experts. Keep decisions, unresolved questions, and handoffs documented so others can continue work without unnecessary delays. Raise conflicting priorities early and propose practical next steps. Maintain confidentiality and use approved systems when handling customer, employee, or business information. Work arrangement: Full-Time, On-site in Huntington, West Virginia.
